Death-Day was designed for the web first and print later.
I know what you're saying- Sure it was. That's a tall order, right? Well, that is what Sam is trying to do.
Let me show you what I mean...
It looks okay, right? But it sure doesn't fill up the screen...
This is probably old hat to constant reader, but maybe some folks out there are unaware of the true power of their browsers.
I mean, specifically, the ability to zoom into the screen.
When I read Death-Day, I like to really immerse myself in Sam's art. If you haven't tried it already, check this out...
Now that's more like it! You're dying to know the secret...
But hold on- lets look at a few more examples first.
See how the images fit the browser screen? I'm using Safari with the Bookmarks toolbar hidden- yeah, because I'm a snob...
That last image has zoomed out. Hold up- are we talking full zoom control?! You bet we are.
FULL ZOOM CONTROL!
If you are using a Mac hold the Command button (Open Apple Yo!) and press + to zoom in or - to zoom out.
If you are using a Windows 7 machine try holding the Windows button and press + to zoom in or - to zoom out.
It's just that simple!
Like anything, compromises have to be made.
Each episode is squeezed into 30 pages and that is a lot of images to load at the same time.
In order to make Death-Day more accessible and decrease load times the images were compressed.
The bottom line is, we want the comic to have it's own feel online and off. The pages will scroll online and turn in the book.
Each format is a different animal.
How has reading Death-Day online been for you? Do you love it? Hate it? Can't wait to see it on the iPad?
Leave it in the comments!
